Frequently Asked Questions

What is a type drive game?

A type drive game turns a typing test into a driving race. In TypeDriveGames, your race car is powered by your keyboard: the faster and more accurately you type, the faster your car drives. The first racer to complete the 50-word text takes the checkered flag.

How does typing speed control my car?

Your car is driven by your live WPM (words per minute), measured over a rolling 5-second window. Every correct keystroke pushes the car forward, while mistakes cost you time because you must fix them with Backspace before the word counts as done.

What is a good typing speed?

The average typist reaches about 40 WPM. Anything between 60 and 70 WPM is considered fast, and professional typists exceed 80 WPM. Beating Bolt, our 85 WPM AI rival, puts you in the top tier of typists.

How is WPM calculated?

WPM = correct characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes elapsed, using the industry-standard normalization of 5 characters per word. Accuracy is correct keystrokes divided by total keystrokes. Your final net WPM only counts the characters you typed correctly.

Is this type drive game free to play?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up and nothing to install. It runs in any modern browser, and your personal best is stored locally in your browser, so you can race again any time.
